The recent publication of DVSA figures showing Britain’s best and worst performing driving test centres has caused quite a stir.

Between April and June this year, just 38.8 percent of people taking the DVSA practical test at the Coventry test centre emerged with a driving licence, a figure that’s well below the national average of 46.7 per cent.
If you are a learner driver in Coventry, you might want to consider taking your test in nearby Nuneaton, which registered a 55 per cent pass rate. The Warwick test centre is also a good bet with a 50.2 per cent pass rate, while the Rugby test centre recorded a modest 49 per cent pass rate. Nevertheless, the Rugby centre is still miles ahead of Coventry.
Book Theory Test Today says: “If you are a learner driver in Coventry, we’re sorry to break the bad news that taking a driving test in your city could set you back. With a higher probability that you will fail, not only is there a cost implication, but waiting times for a resit are lengthy.â€
Other centres to avoid
While Nuneaton, Rugby and Warwick are a good alternative to taking your driving test in Coventry, every learner driver in Coventry is advised to steer clear of Birmingham. With test centres, such as South Yardley, registering pitiful test pass results attempting the driving exam in Birmingham will not do your chances of passing any favours.
The South Yardley centre achieved just a 29.8 per cent driving test pass rate, only avoiding the title of Britain’s worst driving test centre thanks to the Belvedere centre in East London, which had a terrible 29.7 per cent pass rate.
Kingstanding in Brum was another centre that made the UK’s worst list, leading just 33.4 per cent of driving test candidates to a pass.

You might have to travel a fair distance, but if you want to increase your chances of passing then give Pwllheli in Wales (73.1 per cent pass rate) a shot. Barrow in Furness (69.7 per cent pass rate) or Melton Mowbray (61.5 per cent pass rate) are also top choices.
However, if you’re a learner driver in Coventry that could stomach a 12-hour journey to Scotland’s Isle of Skye, your chances of passing are greatly increased. Why? The centre has a whopping 84.2 per cent pass rate.
