If you’re thinking about taking your driving test in Manchester, you might want to steer clear [pun intended] of the Cheetham Hill driving test centre. Here’s why…
Book Theory Test Today says: “The driving test pass rate at the Cheetham Hill test centre in Manchester is disastrous. Between April and June 2015, just 33.1 percent of candidates taking the DVSA practical test passed. That’s the fourth worst record in the country.â€
Book Theory Test Today has a sound knowledge of UK driving test centres and if you’re thinking about taking your driving test in Manchester, we’d recommend heading on over to the Ashton-under-Lyne centre instead.
Failure figures published
Recently released figures, which show the failure rates for every single driving test centre in the UK, revealed that Cheetham Hill has the fourth worst pass record across the entire country.
However, they weren’t the only test centre with a dismal DVSA practical test pass rate. Salford Fire Station registered a 35 per cent pass rate, Middleton had a 37.1 per cent pass rate, while the unfortunately named Failsworth recorded a meagre 37.3 per cent pass rate. All three of these test centres ended up in the country’s bottom 20.
Adding to Failsworth’s woes, in 2014 it was named as one of the driving test centres with the most ‘dangerous fault’ fails in Britain.
Book Theory Test Today says: “It would seem that driving test centres in the north-west are falling short when it comes to pass rates. In Rochdale, for instance, although a 41.7 per cent pass rate is considerably better than some of its north-west counterparts, it still ended up in the UK’s bottom 50 for pass rates.â€
Pass rate national average
With the UK’s national average currently at 46.7 per cent, those taking a test at any of the test centres named above stood little chance of getting a driving licence. However, at the other end of the scale, Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester fared much better than other north-west test centres, recording a 62.4 percent pass rate.
So, if you’ll soon be taking your driving test in Manchester, booking yourself in at the Ashton-under-Lyne centre is your best bet as you’re twice as likely to emerge with a driving licence compared to those taking their exam at Cheetham Hill.
The only other centre in Greater Manchester to exceed the national average was Hyde, which registered a 57.7 per cent rate and made it into the country’s top 50 best-performing test centres.
Men more likely to pass than women
Book Theory Test Today says: “Sorry ladies, the figures published by the Department for Transport indicate that men are more likely to pass than women. That said, we could say the research was probably conducted by a bloke so he’s biased.â€
The data indicates that 50.5 per cent of men successfully completed the driving test, compared with 43.3 per cent of women.
In other locations, the gap was considerably vast. Take Scarborough, for example, where 72.7 per cent of men achieved a test pass compared with just 50.8 per cent of women.
However, it’s not all bad news for you ladies. Across 14 test centres, including Brentwood in London, Bromsgrove, and Darlington, the pass rate was higher among women than men.
