Top 10 Embarrassing Learner Driver Moments – Part One

The long history of the UK driving test has yielded many embarrassing learner driver moments. In part one of this two part series, Book Theory Test Today reveals the top five embarrassing learner driver moments… Can you relate?

The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “Knowing that others experience embarrassing learner driver moments will reassure you that you’re not the only one adapting to driving. Trust me, I’ve been there and experienced a few of these scenarios myself. There I said it!”

Here’s a rundown of the top 10 most embarrassing learner driver moments you’re likely to have faced, starting with the first five…

#1 embarrassing learner driver moment

Top of the list is your instructor picking you up from school, which in your head makes sense. It’s convenient and a logistically sound idea, plus it’s a lift home from school even if it’s an hour later.

The reality is that your mates are likely to have a dig. After all, the one thing that’s worse than having your mum pick you up in the Fiat Cinquecento, is stalling the car – complete with ‘L-plates’ – in front of your friends. Ooooh – they won’t let you forget that in a hurry.

#2 embarrassing learner driver moment

The awkward driving instructor text! Ever received a text from your instructor that you’re not quite sure what to make of? It has been known for instructors to sign off messages with a kiss!

Better yet, the dreaded auto correct has resulted in some rather ‘interesting’ messages from instructor to learner over the years. Be aware that it’s probably your instructor not knowing how to use their phone. Just drop them a LOL and act like nothing happened.

#3 embarrassing learner driver moment

Stalling the car ranks as the third most embarrassing learner driver moment, but know that this happens to everyone, even after you’ve passed your test. However, there’s a time and place you could down without it happening.

The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “I stalled the car on many occasions, still do now even though I passed my test 11 years ago! I wouldn’t recommend a one way street, at a junction or down the local high street where a bunch of your mates just ‘conveniently’ seem to be walking on the day of your driving lesson.”

#4 embarrassing learner driver moment

There’s a knock at the door, who is that this early in the morning? You open the door and surprise it’s your driving instructor and there you are bed head and all, stood in your PJs as it dawns on you that you’ve forgotten your driving lesson. Yikes!

#5 embarrassing learner driver moment

Your driving lesson was booked weeks ago, but the money you were meant to use to pay for it went on a night out instead. Now you’ve got to borrow the money from your parents, but they won’t lend you money forever.

That’s it for part one. Stay tuned for part two coming soon.
