Disqualified From Driving? What Happens Next? Part Two

In part two of the ‘disqualified from driving’ series, Book Theory Test Today look at disqualified bus and lorry drivers.

You could be ordered to re-sit the theory test and undertake an extended practical driving exam. Any decision to reinstate your vocational driving licence entitlements is taken by the DVSA with three possible outcomes likely:

1. Your entitlement may be refused based on evidence highlighting that you are unfit to drive and have conducted yourself improperly.
2. You will have to retake a driving theory test and a practical driving exam for each additional category of vehicle that you wish to drive.
3. Your vocational driving licence may be restored with all categories of vehicle reinstated.

You also need to be aware that the vocational driving licence will not be issued as a singular entity; a car driving licence is required. Therefore, if you have been disqualified from driving a car you will need to retake a driving theory test and an extended practical exam before being able to reapply for a vocational driving licence.

Book Theory Test Today states: “Drivers getting disqualified is becoming a widespread problem. In 2015 the Government is set to introduce new laws changing the way in which disqualified drivers are punished. There are likely to be more severe punishments handed down to motorists who drive while disqualified, uninsured or unlicensed.”

If you still hold your car driving licence you will be able to submit an application to retrieve your vocational driving licence. To reapply you must have passed the vehicle category theory test and practical driving exam required.

Your application should be made to the DVSA and, referring back to the three points covered earlier in the article, a decision will be taken to decide whether the licence will be granted or revoked.

If your bus or lorry licence was disqualified due to an alcohol related offence the DVSA will make medical enquiries before re-issuing your licence. A number of restrictions will be applied to a licence issued back to a bus or lorry driver convicted of a drink driving offence.
