Book Theory Test Today explains what you need to do to get back on the road if you have been disqualified from driving…Â
Book Theory Test Today says: “Did you know? Drivers with a provisional licence can be disqualified from driving. If you’re convicted of a motoring offence, before obtaining a full licence, you can still be banned from driving for a lengthy duration.â€
Should you be disqualified from driving, or riding, a court can order you to retake your theory test and sit an extended practical driving exam before issuing you with your full UK licence.
How Does the Court Decide?
If you’re convicted of dangerous driving offences, or any other motoring offence which leads to a mandatory ban, the court will usually decide to make you take an extended driving exam. This outcome will also require you to re-sit a driving theory test.
How Do I Get My Licence Back?
Once the duration of the disqualification period is completed, should you want to get back your full driving licence, you will need to:
- Apply for a provisional driving licence and drive as a learner
- Obtain a theory test certificate for the category of vehicle in which you intend to take an extended practical driving test
- Pass the extended practical driving exam
The Extended Practical Exam
The extended driving test is much longer and more gruelling than the standard practical exam. You can expect the test to last for up to 70 minutes and it will cover a vast array of roads, including dual carriageways where possible.
Book Theory Test Today says: “Many candidates preparing for the extended practical exam find it beneficial to seek some driving instruction prior to the test. In order to apply for the extended driving exam you MUST apply by post or in person at a DVSA test centre. You will be unable to book your test online or via the telephone booking system.â€
It’s also worth noting that you must apply for a new licence prior to commencing driving. However, your re-application for a licence will not be processed before the duration of the disqualification period has expired.
Once the DVSA has received your application it is permitted for you to drive before your licence is returned, provided that you meet the following criteria:
- You have been in possession of a UK licence issued since 1 January 1976 or another exchangeable licence
- You have made a qualifying application for a licence
- You aren’t disqualified from driving
- You have not been refused a licence for medical reasons or for failing to comply with medical enquiries
- You wouldn’t be refused a licence on medical grounds (if in doubt, check with your doctor)
- You adhere to any special conditions applicable to the licence
