Book Theory Test Today investigates new research that says learner driver accidents during the practical driving test are decreasing.Â
So, you’ve passed your theory test and you’re taking your driving test, but you’re involved in an accident mid-way through the exam, not a great start to life on Britain’s roads. However, according to new research undertaken by IntelligentCarLeasing.com such incidents are set to decline dramatically.
The latest research revealed that there were 22% fewer collisions at this stage of 2014 than there were for the same period in 2009. The most interesting aspect of the new data is that the number of accidents recorded for the first quarter of 2014 will represent a massive decline in the number of test crashes for the year overall.
Book Theory Test Today says: “The research reveals that so far this year there have been just 20 accidents during practical driving tests this year. At this rate, by the end of 2014 there will have been just 80 collisions in total.â€
Compared to figures for the end of 2009, if there are just 80 collisions in the year ending 2014, it will represent an 87% reduction in driving test collisions
IntelligentCarLeasing.com has attributed the steep decline in accident numbers to two factors. Firstly, they suggest that ‘bad’ learner drivers have dramatically improved their basic driving standard, which they also believe explains the rise in theory test and practical driving exam pass rates.
Secondly, they believe that driving instructors have become much more proactive and respond much more swiftly to dangerous situations that occur during the practical test
In a statement from Pete McAllister, of IntelligentCarLeasing.com, he said: “It’s hugely positive to see such a trend emerging in the UK’s learner driver industry. The fall that we’ve found in collisions during tests reflects well on UK road safety and paints a positive picture for the future of motoring.â€
Book Theory Test Today says: “In recent years there have been many insurance claims made against learner drivers involved in collisions. This new research is a great indication that the problem of crashing during a test is in decline.â€
For those accidents that do occur, IntelligentCarLeasing.com attributes them to lack of instructor proactivity and poor driving skills.
Two of the twenty accidents that have occurred during the first quarter of 2014 were as a result of a candidate falling ill whilst behind the wheel.
Other factors related to driving test collisions include the weather, poor decision making, bouts of road rage and the irresponsible behaviour of other road users.
When quizzed about which gender is more likely to be involved in a collision during the driving test, IntelligentCarLeasing.com revealed that men are 64% more likely to be involved in a collision based on current data. However, they did point out that more men than women have taken a driving test so far this quarter.
