According to a new study of Britain’s motorists, men driving blue BMW’s are the UK’s most aggressive drivers. The study claims that men driving blue BMW’s specifically are more prone to road rage than those driving any other vehicle type or colour.
The study reveals that males aged between 35 and 50, driving blue BMW’s, are a group that other motorists should evade in order to avoid confrontation on the roads.
The study also reveals that 5.45pm on a Friday evening is the ‘witching hour’ for aggressive drivers, stating that road rage peaks at this precise time as road users battle the rush hour in order to get home for the weekend.
The research was conducted via a survey of 2,837 motorists and as well as blue BMV drivers, Audi drivers, Land Rover drivers, Subaru drivers and Vauxhall drivers were also prone to intense road rage.
Drivers driving black, silver, green and red vehicles followed closely behind blue car drivers, which topped the list, as the most aggressive colours.
The data revealed that men lost their temper behind the wheel at least seven times per month on average compared to women, who lost their temper on just three occasions.
Road rage most often manifested itself as shouting, swearing, obscene gestures and erratic driving.
The poll was carried out by discount website, VoucherCodesPro, and also uncovered Friday evening and Monday morning as the peak periods for volatile driving behaviour.
In a statement from George Charles of VoucherCodesPro, he said: “During peak periods of traffic, whether it is on a Monday morning during the school run or during the manic Friday evening rush hour, it is not uncommon to witness the various forms of road rage expression get the better of many motorists.â€
He added: “The research, although slightly humorous in some of its findings, does indicate an important point. Road rage is not something to be taken lightly and these results show that many motorists need to check themselves and remember that getting angry when driving can swiftly turn into an altercation or result in a collision that can cause serious injury and even death.â€
