Book Theory Test Today is calling all learner drivers to get involved in a major fundraising campaign for Children in Need!
The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “You might not have your theory test certificate or driving licence yet, but here’s your chance to drive (with your instructor) for a good cause.
The ‘Driving School Relay’ event takes place over a duration of 13 days, involving 147 legs across various locations throughout Britain. The event is expected to cover around 2,130 miles.
The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “The event works like this. At the end of each leg, a driving school vehicle roof display will be passed to the next driver trainer and pupil taking part, until all the legs have been completed.â€
The relay event commences on Thursday, October 30th, ending in Birmingham on Friday, November 14th, which is this year’s Children in Need day.
The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “This is a great idea, conjured up by Louise Walsh, 41, a driver trainer based close to Lymington in Hampshire. Louise found inspiration to do something for charity thanks to last year’s Children in Need television coverage.â€
One participant in the event, Vicky Holt, 44, a driver trainer for Top Gun Driving School, had this to say: “We’ve got more than 2,000 instructors signed up already for the event. There are about six in our convoy, but if any more instructors want to join in, they can.â€
She added: “It’s the first year we’ve done this and it’s a bit ground-breaking, but, hopefully, it will raise a lot of money, and we’ll do it next year too.â€
The Book Theory Testy Today blogger says: “You’re invited! So, if you’re a learner driver in the West Midlands, get in gear (see what we did there) and get involved.â€
There’s no requirement to hold a theory test certificate or a full UK driving licence, but you will be accompanied by your instructor at all times, for safety reasons. However, the experience will not be like a standard driving lesson.
Instructors are encouraged to dress up for the occasion and vehicles can also be decorated, provided visibility is not hindered.
Vicky Holt, who will be completing the Tyneside leg of the relay, said: “As well as the relay, I’m doing sponsored pyjama lessons and letting people pay to put sponsored spots on my learner car with their names on. I might do the relay dressed in pyjamas, but I’m not sure yet.â€
The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “If you’re interested in taking part, here’s what to do – go to www.biglearnerrelay.co.uk or search for ‘Big Learner Relay’ on Facebook.
