The Book Theory Test Today blogger reveals the city in which learner drivers have the highest first time theory test pass rate in the UK.
Passing your driving theory test is a joyful experience because it sets you on your way to obtaining a driving licence. However, to pass your theory test first time represents an even greater achievement.
One bunch of learner drivers in one particular city make a habit of passing the theory test first time round, setting the standard for all other learner motorists across the UK.
And, the winner is… Â
Plymouth. According to new research undertaken by Privilege car insurance the city with the highest first time theory test and practical driving exam pass rate is Plymouth.
The research revealed that 49 per cent of theory test and practical driving exam candidates cruised through first time. The national average for passing the theory test and practical exam first time is 47 per cent.
The data revealed that just 15 per cent of motorists in Plymouth required more than three attempts to pass the practical driving exam, whilst just 8 per cent needed three or more attempts at the theory test.
However, of those people who required more than three attempts at the practical driving exam or theory test did have their excuses.
Seven per cent of survey respondents who did not pass first time attributed their failure to lack of preparation and practice. A further eight per cent blamed their unsuccessful attempt on examiner invigilators ‘not liking them’.
Furthermore, one in ten people that failed either the theory test or driving exam at the first attempt confessed to going out the night before their assessment.
Another six per cent of first time failures in Plymouth, who expected to pass, said that their confidence came from their driving ability on computer driving games.
Despite a high first time pass rate the research also uncovered that 18 per cent of motorists went on to have an accident within the first 12 months of getting behind the wheel.
Some commentators have also questioned the validity of the research. Based on the number of people living in Plymouth, compared with the populations of some of the UK’s larger cities, commentators say that it’s not surprising that first time pass rates are high in Plymouth. They argue that the research is not an accurate reflection of pass rate trends in Britain.
Despite critical analysis from some commentators, Plymouth driving test centres have welcomed the research. One spokesperson said: “High first time pass rates for the theory test and practical driving exam in Plymouth show that our learner drivers are very knowledgeable when it comes to UK roads and road safety.â€
The Book Theory Test Today blogger says: “Such research should serve as an inspiration to all learner motorists across the UK that with the right preparation it is possible to pass the theory test and practical driving exam first time.
