Say hello to teen Formula One sensation, Max Verstappen, who recently finished fourth in the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 26. Did you know? He doesn’t have a driving licence yet…
Book Theory Test Today says: “It’s true. The Dutch-born Formula One driver who lives in Belgium has to wait until his 18th birthday to take his driving test because Belgium’s driving laws dictate that he must have a minimum of six to seven hours of driving time under his belt, excluding his time spent on the track.†Â
The Formula One driver has been a little pre-occupied with his commitments on the track and only now, during the F1 summer break, does he have time to take in some driving tuition. His track rivals, on the other hand, will be jetting off on their holidays.
Youngest ever Formula One driver
Verstappen, who is the youngest ever Formula One driver at just 17 years old, said: “I’m having to do my driving lessons during the summer break. The F1 schedule is pretty demanding leaving me little time to slot everything in.â€
Book Theory Test Today says: “For a driver who’s used to rocketing around race tracks at speeds exceeding 180mph, discussions with his driving instructor are probably quite comical.â€
Formula One season at half way point
With the Formula One season reaching its halfway point following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen has turned his attention to achieving a driving licence and hopes that all he needs is the six to seven hours of driving tuition to pass.
In contrast, Britain’s Lewis Hamilton was quick to show that he was already enjoying his summer break with social media pictures of his new, braided hairstyle and images of him enjoying a breakfast sitting, ‘al fresco’ style.
Theory test
Verstappen did say that he has passed his theory test, so that’s something. In order to pass his practical driving test, he will be taking an intensive course of driving lessons he told reporters after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
One reporter said ‘you should pass the test with ease, Max,’ to which he replied: “I’m not convinced. Perhaps I’m a little too fast on the road, but we’ll see.â€
Verstappen turns 18 on September 30, just three days after the Japanese Grand Prix and hopes to take his driving test as soon as he can. Although he has aspirations to pass his driving test, his school lessons are another thing.
He said: “Basically, this was my final year at school, but the chance to become a Formula One driver only comes once and that’s what I’m focused on at present.â€
