We’ve received news that the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has closed its driving test booking services until Monday, 7 September. According to the gov.uk website, there are currently no more driving test appointments available. Here’s what we know…
Driving test booking services were reopened on 1 September. However, it was soon taken offline as all appointments available were filled. Online booking services will resume on Monday, 7 September when more available test dates are added to the DVSA’s system.
In the meantime, you can book your UK driving test with us and we will secure one of the next available appointments for you when online booking services resume.
Driving Test Booking Services for Scotland
For driving test booking services in Scotland, you will be able to book a new test date from 7 September for available appointments in the week commencing 14 September.
From Monday 14 September, the DVSA will be extending the period in which test appointments are available from 6 weeks to 18 weeks ahead.
According to the DVSA, this makes an additional 375,000 test appointments available between 14 September 2020 and 31 January 2021.
Currently, you will only be able to book a driving test appointment with the DVSA that is available within the next 6 weeks.
If your preferred driving test centre is fully booked, you can choose to take your test at the next closest test centre to you.
Book Theory Test Today is monitoring the availability of appointments across all test centres. However, there is no waiting list or cancellation list for tests. Only the appointment slots available can be booked.
Do Not Apply if You’re Not Ready
It’s advised that you do not book your driving test if you’re not ready. Get advice from your driving instructor as to whether they think you’re ready to take your test. If you want to book now, you need to be ready as tests are only available at short notice.
You should be aware that less than 50% of people pass their driving test and if you fail, you could be subject to lengthy waiting times for a retest.
The DVSA is currently urging prospective test candidates to practice driving on a variety of roads and in different driving conditions, especially with autumn and winter approaching.
