After more than 50 years at Waverley House in Edgerton, Huddersfield Driving Test Centre is set to be relocated, after its current premises were put up for sale following 12 months of speculation over the test centre’s future.
Waverley House on Waverley Road is owned by the adjacent Waverley United Reformed Church and the building has been put on the market for £550,000.
News of a potential relocation of Huddersfield Driving Test Centre comes more than a year after the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) secured planning permission to use Abacus House in Bradley as a new base for driving tests in the town, back in November 2017.

However, despite planning approval, the DVSA never moved into Abacus House on Pennine Business Park.
The DVSA has remained tight-lipped over the future of Huddersfield Driving Test Centre, leading some of the town’s driving instructors to speculate that the Yorkshire town could be left without a practical driving test centre altogether.

The DVSA had been approached for comment about a potential relocation or closure of the driving test base, which would force test candidates to travel to Halifax or Heckmondwike to take a practical test, and recently issued this response: “We’re aware of the rumours, but the practical test centre at Waverley House isn’t going anywhere.”
One local driving instructor said: “A move from the long held base would not make a huge difference to instructors. However, if there was to be no test centre in Huddersfield, it would be an inconvenience to people learning to drive.”
