How To Apply For Your Provisional Driving Licence | Book Your Theory Test Today

Book Your Theory Test Today understands that passing a driving theory test and then the practical driving test opens up a whole new world to new drivers. The freedom and independence that owning a motor vehicle brings is a great feeling.

However, in order to get to the stage where you are able to book your driving theory test, or take your practical driving test one vital component is required, the UK provisional driving licence.

In the modern age you are able to apply for your provisional driving licence online, you can also book your driving theory test online and once you’ve passed that you can then book your practical driving test. The process of applying for the necessary requirements to become a motorist has all been made convenient.

To apply for your provisional driving licence you need to lodge an application with the DVLA. The cost of a provisional UK driving licence is £50 (correct as of November 2013) and you need to meet certain criteria in order to be granted a provisional driving licence.

Without a provisional driving licence you will be unable to book your driving theory test or practical test, so if you’re serious about becoming a motorist on Britain’s roads, the provisional driving licence is a necessity.

The key criteria that you’ll need to meet in order to receive a UK provisional driving licence include:

* Being a resident of Great Britain

* Meeting the minimum age requirement (currently 17 years old for a car, 16 years old for a moped)

* Meeting the minimum eyesight requirement (a visual acuity of at least decimal 0.5 – 6/12 – in accordance with the Snellen scale, if wearing glasses or contact lenses). Without glasses or contact lenses you must be able to read a car number plate from a distance of at least 20 metres

* Holding a UK passport

* Providing your national insurance number

* Providing residential addresses detailing where you have lived for the last three years

You are permitted to apply for a UK provisional driving licence 3 months prior to your 17th birthday if you want to drive a car. If you’re looking to apply for a provisional licence for the purpose of operating a moped you may apply three months prior to your 16th birthday.

Upon receipt of your provisional driving licence you are then able to commence driving lessons and as you develop your driving skills, your driving instructor will inform you when you’re ready to book your driving theory test.

Upon successful completion of your driving theory test, your driving instructor will then assess whether you are ready to take the practical element of the UK driving test. But remember, you cannot book your driving theory test or take your practical test without that all important provisional driving licence.

So, apply for yours today and look to the road ahead as you embark on the journey of becoming a fully fledged UK motorist. Good luck.
