Where is the temporary driving test centre?
Wyndley Leisure Centre. The facility has been set up to help ease the backlog at the main Sutton Coldfield driving test centre on Boldmere Road. With current driving test appointment waiting times for learner drivers hitting 11 weeks, the next available slot isn’t until 7 November (at time of writing).

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) said: “We’re opening the temporary centre to help meet the current demand for driving tests in the area. We will assess the needs of the customers before making any future decisions about the site.”
When can a driving test be taken?
The temporary driving test centre will be open Monday to Friday during the leisure centre’s quiet periods. Five to six examiners will be stationed at the site, while five to six parking spaces per hour will be occupied in order to conduct tests.
Meanwhile, test centre staff will use office space at the leisure centre, rather than the swimming baths site. The DVSA did move to reassure learner drivers that tests booked at the Boldmere Road facility will not be affected by the new driving test centre in Sutton Coldfield.
Richard Hennessey, DVSA head of Operations South, said: “The DVSA is committed to helping people through a lifetime of driving and are providing more driving tests to meet our customer’s needs.”
“To meet increasing demand for driving tests, we are opening a new temporary centre at Wyndley Leisure Centre, which will be in addition to the current site in Sutton Coldfield,” he added.
However, Sutton Coldfield Trinity city and town councillor, and mayor of Sutton Coldfield, David Pears, expressed his concerns about the new driving test facility. He said: “A driving test centre on a busy car park does make me feel a little nervous. Inexperienced drivers coming in and out that car park could cause a problem.”
Mr Pears did see the benefit of the test centre, though. He stated that if it helps Sutton Coldfield’s learner driver community to take their driving test quicker, it’s very good news for them.
