For 20 years, Rishton House has been Lowestoft’s driving test hub, but no longer. The DVSA is relocating driving tests in the town to a new facility located on Mobbs Way. From June, Lowestoft learner drivers will start their driving exam at the new venue. Here’s what we know…
In 2017, Rishton House hosted 5,512 practical driving tests for cars and bikes, but the DVSA is moving to a new centre on Mobbs Way to ‘provide better facilities for candidates and examiners.’
HEO at Lowestoft and Norwich Jupiter Road Driving Test Centres, Stephen Pavey, said: “Lowestoft driving test centre is moving after many years in Rishton House to a new purpose built test centre in Mobbs Way. This move sees the DVSA invest in the future of the Lowestoft area, and ensures testing can continue in this region for many years to come.”
A DVSA spokesperson said that the move will enable the agency to conduct a similar number of tests to those taken at Rishton House and that the new facility has a longer lease.
New Driving Test Centre Provides Better Facilities
According to the DVSA, the new Lowestoft driving test venue provides better facilities, including onsite parking, which will allow examiners to conduct the reverse parking manoeuvre as part of the test.
The official opening of the new test centre is set for Friday, 8 June. Meanwhile, the site will be open for tests as of Monday, 11 June. Test bookings for the new venue began on Tuesday, 29 May.
For learner drivers in Waveney, Lowestoft is still the only choice for taking a practical driving test. Meanwhile, other test centres in the Suffolk region can be found in Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and there are two facilities in Norwich.
