We get a lot of questions about what happens if you’re ill on the day of a theory test appointment. You would expect that the DVSA would show you some sympathy and reschedule your test, but that’s not always the case. The rules are pretty strict, so here’s what you need to know…
In most cases, if you’re ill on the day of your theory test appointment, or fall ill during your exam, you will fail the test. The DVSA has strict systems and processes in place, which mean that cancelling your theory test on the day of your scheduled appointment or leaving the exam without completing it means that, not only will you fail, you will lose your test fee.
The DVSA requires you to give three working days’ notice to cancel or reschedule a test. If you’re ill on the day of your exam, you will be unable to meet this criteria. Unfortunately, this means that you will have to rebook your theory test and pay again.
Attend Your Theory Test Appointment
Even if you’re unwell, the best thing to do is attend your theory test appointment. You can ring your theory test centre before your scheduled test time to notify them that you’re feeling unwell, and special measures can be put in place to make taking the test as comfortable as possible.
In rare cases, the DVSA will allow you to reschedule your theory test appointment, rather than having to cancel, rebook and pay again.
However, if illness strikes before the three workings days’ notice period, and you don’t think that you will recover in time, the best thing to do is reschedule your appointment, get a new test date and avoid having to pay again. You can change your theory test appointment a maximum of six times, provided you give three working days’ notice.
After the sixth time, you will have to cancel and rebook!
