Cancelled Theory Test: How to Get Your Money Back

Cancelled Theory Test: How to Get Your Money Back

We’re often asked if there’s anything that can be done about a cancelled theory test. You can get a refund and claim any expenses if your theory test was cancelled at short notice – meaning less than three clear working days. Here’s what you need to do…

if the DVSA cancels your theory test less than three clear working days before your appointment, you’re entitled to claim for a refund and out-of-pocket expenses. In the event of a cancelled theory test on the day of your appointment,

it’s possible to claim for loss of earnings if you booked a day off from work, and any travel expenses incurred.

To make a claim, you will need to complete the DVSA’s cancelled theory test claim form. Using supporting guidance notes, you will need to fill in the form, sign it and give permission for the DVSA to contact your employer.

Cancelled Theory Test Claim Supporting Documents

Additionally, you will need to include any receipts for travel expenses or vehicle hire, plus a letter from your employer, providing your daily rate of pay, if you’re claiming for loss of earnings.

If you don’t complete the form correctly, or fail to provide the right documents, your claim will be delayed.

You need to post your claim to the DVSA at the following address:

Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency,

Customer Service Department,

PO Box 1286,

Warrington,

WA1 9GN.

To check that the DVSA has received your claim, or for an update, you can call 0300 200 1188.

Once the DVSA has received your claim, they will consider it and then process your payment if your claim is successful.

Note: A cancelled theory test claim form will not be accepted if your appointment was cancelled due to bad weather.
