Pass Rates by Year

Pass rates aren't really an indicator of how well someone does on the driving test. They're not even an indication of whether or not someone should get a license. In fact, people who fail tests often do better than those who pass them.

Extending theory test centre opening hours

From Monday 10 May to Wednesday 31 July, we're extending the opening times at most Theory Test Centres in England and Wales. Typically, centres will now be open earlier and close late in the evenings. For instance, some centres will be opened from 8am to 8 pm, and others might be open on Saturdays or Sundays where they were previously shut.

Opening temporary larger theory test centres in England

We opened 10 temporary larger theory test centers. These 10 temporary centers will create a minimum of 60,000 more appointments each month. The centers will be in: Cambridge, Huddersfield, Leeds (there will be two temporary centers), London (Docklands).

London, Manchester, Wolverhampton.

Taking a test at one of these temporary centres

These temporary larger theory test centres won't be as big as normal ones. There will be strict rules about how many people can sit together. Safety precautions will be taken to make sure everyone stays safe.

Protective transparent screens at reception desks provide hand sanitiser to be used on arrival, during the test and when candidates leave the testing centre. Cleaning workstations include computers and headphones. Staff will wear a face covering if there is a medical reason why it is not recommended. Candidates must wear a face covering too if they have informed us beforehand that they cannot.

Candidates must come into the testing centre alone to help with the social distancing. Mobile phones must be turned off. Pupils will notice that there are many safety measures in place at the testing centre.

There are no lockers for students' personal belongings; they must keep them in a rigid plastic box and place it under their desks during the exam. Invigilators walk around the testing room, watching students take the test, and observe social distancing guidelines at every moment.

These details will also be included as part of the booking confirmation email.
