30 something learner drivers have an advantage over 17 year olds<\/b><\/p>\n

This is a belief held by many 30 something drivers I came across on a selection of driving forums. However, the DVSA would move to quash any ideas that a driver aged 30 or over has any advantages over a fresh faced teenager.<\/p>\n

The DVSA claims that older motorists suffer from a distinct lack of confidence and are less likely to pass a theory test<\/b><\/a> or practical exam at the first attempt.<\/p>\n

However, contrary to what the DVSA has to say, I have some encouragement for those of you aged 30 or over. For starters, you will have much better road etiquette than most 17- year-olds. \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHow\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s that possible?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 You ask. \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve never studied for a theory test<\/b> or even been behind the wheel of a car.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/p>\n

Well, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been a passenger in a car, surely. So, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t underestimate how much you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve picked up, merely by observing how others do it. Apparently, over the age of 30 you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re much more cautious when it comes to taking risks, and you understand the ramifications of taking unnecessary risks.<\/p>\n

This means you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re far more likely to take the process of learning to drive much more seriously. You listen more, retain information better and follow instructions almost exactly, making your learning experience far more effective. Therefore, the theory test<\/b> and practical exam should be a doddle to pass.<\/p>\n

Access to a car<\/b><\/p>\n

A great perk of being 30 and learning to drive is that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re much more likely to have access to a vehicle, complete with friend or partner who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s over the age of 25 and has held a licence for three years or more. This cuts your costs and means if you want to learn to drive without a qualified instructor, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not your parents supervising you.<\/p>\n

Cheaper car insurance\u00c2\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

As a driver, over the age of 25, you can smile knowing that once you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve passed your theory test <\/b>and practical exam, and you come to buy a car, your car insurance will be considerably cheaper than that of a 17-year-old. Ha ha, in your face youth.<\/p>\n

So, I hope I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve encouraged you that learning to drive when you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re on the wrong side of 30, has its advantages. Once you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve passed the theory test<\/b> and practical exam you will discover a new level of freedom. Soon you will be chauffeur to the kids and teaching your 30 something mates, who don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t drive, how to drive.<\/p>\n
