Without a theory test<\/b> pass certificate or driving licence to his name, 12 year-old Adam Kingsley from Harrow has shown that not all young motorists on Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s roads are incompetent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam has recently been crowned one of the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s best young drivers, ousting hundreds of other candidates from across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

At 12 years-old, Adam is not officially old enough to drive. He cannot legally obtain a provisional driving licence; take a theory test <\/b>or a practical driving exam. However, Adam\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s remarkable feat serves as a great inspiration to all young drivers across Britain and illustrates that there are young motorists capable of driving responsibly on Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s highways.<\/span><\/p>\n

They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re labelled as irresponsible due to the number of road accidents\/deaths that occur within the 17-24 age group, but Adam\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s achievements suggest something different. Educate Britain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s young drivers early and offer incentives, such as the young driver of the year awards, and the attitudes towards driving among young people will change.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam achieved a second place finish in the 11-13 age category at the finals of the Young Driver Challenge, 2014, which was held at Birmingham\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) on Saturday, 13<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> September.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement from Adam, who attends Salvatorian College in Harrow Weald, he said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It was an amazing feeling when they announced I had finished in second place in the 11 to 13 age category. There were a lot of challenging tests and we knew the judges were marking us based on many different driving skills and manoeuvres.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We had to show how well we could do things like parallel parking, reversing, tight steering, emergency stops and turns in the road, as well as undertake independent driving. It was nerve-wracking, but it was an amazing experience.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Over 350 young people took part in the competition, none of whom hold a theory test<\/b> certificate or provisional driving licence. The event is organised by Young Driver, which provides driving tuition for under-17s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam was one of just 40 youngsters to make it to the final of the competition, which is open to individuals aged between 11 and 16.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from being assessed on their practical driving skills while operating a dual-controlled Skoda Citigo at one of Young Driver\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 33 venues, competition entrants\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 knowledge of the Highway Code was also put to the test at the Goodyear Driving Academy using an online driving simulator.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement from Kim Stanton, of Young Driver, she said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What competition entrants have achieved without a provisional licence or theory test<\/b> certificate to their name is remarkable. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to say a massive congratulations to Adam and all of our finalists and winners. The standard of entries was extremely high, so they should all feel hugely proud of their achievements.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s accomplishments have earned him a place on Young Driver\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Pro-Drive Skills Day, five Young Driver lessons and a half day Young Driver at school session for his classmates.<\/span><\/p>\n
