Following on from the announcement that the cost of the UK <\/b>theory test<\/strong> is to be reduced later this year, the Government has now announced that it will be slashing the cost of UK driving licence fees.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a joint statement from the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, and Transport Minister, Claire Petty, they said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Driving licence fees are set to fall by up to 32%. The proposals to reduce the fees have been set out in a public consultation on driver licensing fees. The consultation sets out a proposed reduction in driving licence fees of 32% for digital transactions and 15% for paper applications.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

This will come as welcome news, particularly for learner drivers who have embraced the proposed reduction in price to the theory test<\/strong>. With having to pay for a provisional driving licence, theory test<\/strong> fees, driving lessons and a practical driving exam, all before they can even apply for a full driving licence, any cost reduction on driving licence fees will ease the strain on learner drivers.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also great news for current licence holders, with those renewing after 10 years seeing a reduction from \u00c2\u00a320 to \u00c2\u00a314.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I have been working hard to drive savings across the whole public sector and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s great to see the benefit of these efficiencies feed through to drivers and businesses pockets. What the DVSA have shown is that you can do more for less. With the reduction of the driving theory test<\/strong> also happening, the financial burden affecting most learner drivers will be eased significantly.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Transport Minister, Claire Perry, said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The cost of driving can be substantial, especially for new drivers. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m pleased to say that we are planning to save drivers \u00c2\u00a318m a year by cutting licence fees, thanks to the DVSA making significant savings to their running costs.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n
