Research carried out by Vouchercloud.com has discovered that a large proportion of UK motorists believe they would fail the UK driving test if asked to re-take it. In a survey of 1,991 drivers aged 18+, 31% of them said they would not pass the test because of all the poor habits they had picked up since being on the road independently.<\/p>\n

For many drivers in the upper age bracket they said they wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t even get to the practical test as there was no theory test requirement when they started out learning to drive.<\/p>\n
When asked if they would try to regain their licence if disqualified from driving, 5% of respondents said no because they would be required to take a theory test, something they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d never done before.<\/p>\n
The poll undertaken by Vouchercloud.com first asked respondents:<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDid you pass your driving test first time?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Almost a quarter of respondents (24%) indicated that they had successfully completed the test first time. 33% of respondents said they had passed second time, while the remaining 43% specified that it had taken them more than two attempts to pass their practical driving exam.<\/p>\n
Drivers were then asked:<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDo you think you would be able to pass your full driving test now, if you were to take it again?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Just 39% responded with a definitive \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcyes\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. A further 30% said that they would require a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcrefresher lesson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 before being able to pass again.<\/p>\n
The remaining 31% said \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcno\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, passing the test would not be possible for them if they had to re-take it. A high proportion of \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcno\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 responses came from the 40-60 year-old age bracket. Vouchercloud.com attributes this to the fact that so much has changed since respondents from this age group had learnt to drive. The introduction of the theory test being a primary factor.<\/p>\n
Those who answered that they didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d pass their test again were then asked where they thought they would most likely fail. Overall, almost a third (32%) of respondents believed they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d fail the theory test.<\/p>\n
Vouchercloud.com suggested that this shows a worrying lack of driving theory knowledge and a poor understanding of basic rules of the road. Furthermore, 47% of respondents felt they would fail both the practical driving exam and theory test. The final 21% of respondents thought they would only fail the practical test.<\/p>\n
When quizzed as to which parts of the practical test they thought they would fail, the top five hindrances were:<\/p>\n
1. Failure to check mirrors \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 63%<\/p>\n
2. Failure to monitor speed \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 51%<\/p>\n
3. Signal use \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 44%<\/p>\n
4. Poor steering control \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 23%<\/p>\n
5. Incorrect positioning \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 19%<\/p>\n
