The hazard perception element of the UK Driving Theory Test is set to undergo changes with a view to implementation in August 2013.<\/p>\n

The DSA had been in negotiations to \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcmodernise\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 the hazard perception aspect of the driving theory test by introducing computer generated images (CGI). An invitation to bid on a contract to develop and maintain CGI software for the test was launched and was awarded to London-based company, SME-Jelly.<\/p>\n
The new look hazard perception test is now set to be rolled out sometime in August 2013.<\/p>\n
Initial consultations with companies that specialise in CGI services began last October (2012) with a view to identifying CGI technology that could meet the DSA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s vision for revamping the hazard perception aspect of the UK driving theory test.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for BookTheoryTestToday.com said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The DSA is emphasising that it is \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcmoving with the times\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 by incorporating the latest technology into the driving theory test. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s positive to see that the DSA is seeking to improve the test experience whilst educating all UK drivers.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
In January 2013 the DSA began a formal procurement process and provided two initial examples of CGI clips via the DSA YouTube channel requesting feedback on the proposed updates.<\/p>\n
In a statement from Rosemary Thew, Chief Executive of the DSA, she said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The hazards presented in the current clips are still relevant but the image quality is not as clear or defined as the quality available today. We are looking forward to presenting clips that are fresh and up-to-date.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
She added: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The use of computer-generated images means that we can include situations with vulnerable road users such as children, cyclists, and motorcyclists without risk.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n
