\n\tThe Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) launched its 2018-2022 digital strategy recently. The agency’s plans will result in a huge overhaul across the business, including improvements to candidate identification technology at both practical and theory test centres, to help prevent fraud. Here’s what we know…<\/p>\n

\n\tRoad safety is high on the agenda as the DVSA announced its digital strategy for the coming years. Enhanced digital services will “meet the needs of users, from learner drivers, to car owners, to driving instructors and garage owners”, the DVSA said in an official statement.<\/p>\n

\n\tPractical and Driving Theory Test Candidate Recognition to be Enhanced<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally, the DVSA is aiming to develop a series of new tools for use by the agency’s enforcement teams, and to help its staff operate more effectively. Over the next three years, the DVSA is targeting a rollout of improved technology and state of the art digital services to enhance its customer experience, including:<\/p>\n

\n\t* Enabling driving examiners to check vehicle status, MOT and tax online<\/p>\n

\n\t* Enhancing candidate identification technology at both practical and theory test centres<\/a>, to help prevent fraud<\/p>\n

\n\t* Developing improvements to the driving test for candidates, including being able to record the test debrief and email a copy to the candidate and trainer<\/p>\n

\n\t* Moving away from paper-based forms that have been in existence for more than 25 years, meaning successful driving test candidates get their licences more quickly<\/p>\n

\n\t* Using voluntary electronic driving log books as part of the learning process<\/p>\n

\n\t* Introducing an online option for Approved Driving Examiners (ADIs) to book their standard checks<\/p>\n

\n\t* Improving customer experience at MOT garages by improving test quality and making MOT systems more intuitive<\/p>\n

\n\tAs part of the wider strategy, DVSA staff will be equipped with new technologies to maintain road safety on Britain’s highways. The agency’s in-house digital and technology teams will upgrade infrastructure and enhance internal digital services to reduce the volume of paperwork for staff, allowing them to focus on more crucial jobs.<\/p>\n

\n\tLeading the DVSA’s digital revolution is James Munson, the director of digital services, who said: “The DVSA is determined to help citizens stay safe on Britain’s roads. Our digital, data and technology infrastructure plays a vital role in this, as there’s much more we can do to provide better services and better value for money.”<\/p>\n

\n\t“Introducing new and improved digital infrastructure will help our staff work more efficiently, make our customers’ experiences more intuitive, and provide brilliant world-class digital services,” Mr Munson added.<\/p>\n
