Remember <\/em>Lowri Jones<\/em><\/strong><\/a>? The diabetic teenager left humiliated after being thrown out of her last driving theory test? Well, she has stuck it to the system by returning to the same theory test centre and passing with flying colours.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

17-year-old Lowri Jones, the diabetic teenager accused of cheating during her last driving theory test for having a potentially life-saving blood glucose monitor, has retaken her test and passed. Lowri, who made a theory test booking online, originally attended the Chester driving theory test centre in August [2015].<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon her arrival, she informed DVSA staff of the device explaining to them that it was crucial she had it on her person. In the first instance, DVSA officials agreed she could take the monitor into her driving theory test. However, part way through the exam, that stance changed and Lowri was unceremoniously removed from the exam when staff deemed the device inappropriate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Driving theory test passed second time round <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Lowri, who has suffered with diabetes since the age of 12, returned to the Chester driving theory test<\/strong><\/a> centre and without incident, passed the test with flying colours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reflecting on her theory test success, she said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It went really well. I did ask them about taking in my reader with me and I was told it was OK. They did reassure me about it and it had been playing on my mind with what happened the first time in Chester. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m just finally looking forward to getting into the practical side of it now and want to book a practical test<\/strong><\/a> as soon as I can.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

So far, Lowri has had about 20 driving lessons and her driving instructor has told her that she needs another six lessons or so before she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ready to tackle the DVSA practical test.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since commenting, Lowri has gone on to book a practical driving test and hopes to be taking it in around three months\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 time.<\/span><\/p>\n

DVSA apologised<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Following the original incident with her driving theory test in August, DVSA officials contacted her to apologise and offered to book a theory test<\/strong><\/a> in Chester for free.<\/span><\/p>\n

In accordance with DVSA rules, stated on their website, when a candidate is taking a driving theory test personal items must be locked away and are not permitted during the theory test sitting.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement from the DVSA, they said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We will be reviewing our policies and procedures in respect of essential medical equipment being permitted in the driving theory test exam room.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Nia Pritchard, Lowri\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mother, said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The attitude of DVSA officials during Lowri\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s second theory test sitting was very different to that of her first experience. In fact, it was \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcremarkable\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know if anything was said off the back of what happened first time round, but the attitude change was evident.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153After the first occasion, Lowri became more self-conscious of a device she was already self-conscious about and she was still concerned about it when returning for her second driving theory test attempt. However, this time she came out of the exam utterly elated.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n
