A new, specialist driving test centre has opened at Stone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s community fire station. The initiative, a joint set up between Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and the DVSA, is based at \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThe Fillybrooks\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 station in Stone.<\/span><\/p>\n

As of November 2nd<\/sup>, practical driving test bookings<\/a><\/strong> will be taken for buses, lorries and cars with trailers. The decision to open the new driving test centre comes following the closure of the Swynnerton centre in March [2015].<\/span><\/p>\n

Book a driving test that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s convenient<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The new test centre makes it more convenient for driving test candidates and equally convenient for trainers as they will save money on fuel and reduce travel times. The Fire Service will be investing money, paid by the DVSA in rent and running costs, into the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Safer Communities, Community Interest Company (CIC).<\/span><\/p>\n

The leader of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Driver Development and Education, Rowan Kitton, said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We believe being able to book a driving test here is a massive benefit to the communities of Staffordshire and the road haulage industry in general, which has recently been without a facility at which to book a driving test.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Kitton added: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The fact that Stone is located in a reasonably central part of Staffordshire not only makes it less hassle and less time consuming for driving test candidates, it reduces the carbon footprint and saves companies money on fuel, which will be widely welcomed given the UK\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s current financial climate.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The ethos is to make Staffordshire the safest place to live and work and the new community fire station and driver testing centre follows that ethos. The community station is fast becoming a hub for local groups and organisations. The partnership with the DVSA is supporting businesses across the whole of the Staffordshire County and providing much-needed employment opportunities.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Head of operations for the DVSA, Phil Lloyd, said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We are pleased to be working with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to offer a more local service for vocational testing. This is a great example of how we can work with partners in the public and private sector to provide a service that is convenient as well as being cost effective.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n
