Why is Britain picking on illegal immigrant drivers? <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The crackdown on illegal immigrant drivers forms part of the government\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s latest immigration bill, published on September 17, to create what it calls a \u00e2\u20ac\u02dchostile environment\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for immigrants that are in Britain illegally.<\/span><\/p>\n

Book Theory Test Today<\/strong><\/a> says: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Under new powers, police will have the authority to seize vehicles and jail illegal immigrant drivers. In England and Wales, those caught face a six-month maximum sentence, plus an unlimited fine.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Home Office<\/span>\u00c2\u00a0said: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Illegal immigrant drivers arrested for this new offence will have their vehicle impounded. If they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re convicted of the offence the vehicle will be forfeited.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

The spokesperson added: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Immigration enforcement officers will be given new powers to search individuals and vehicles, plus they will be able to seize driving licences should they suspect that a person is in Britain unlawfully.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n

Support withdrawn for failed asylum seekers<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

A second reading of the new immigration bill will take place in the Commons on October 13. The bill includes detailed measures to withdraw support from people refused UK asylum, plus plans to introduce powers that would see the electronic tagging of people refused immigration bail.<\/span><\/p>\n

The government has found itself under increasing pressure during the summer months as members of the British public, opposed to immigration, have criticised its handling of the Calais crisis and a recent announcement that immigration numbers had hit record levels.<\/span><\/p>\n
