When the clutch is depressed the engine is disengaged, effectively making the vehicle \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcfree-wheel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. Braking while coasting causes wear and tear on the brakes and having the clutch depressed gives you less control of your vehicle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">However, keeping the engine engaged reduces the wear and tear on the brakes and gives you better control of your vehicle. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s why instructors will try to teach you to cut out coasting as part of driving.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Coasting while driving<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Driving experts say that there are five common types of coasting, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Keeping the clutch depressed while rolling down a hill<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Keeping the clutch depressed when making a right or left turn from a main road into a minor road<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Using the clutch too soon before stopping<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Excessive clutch depression after changing gear<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Depressing the clutch or leaving the gear in neutral to conserve fuel<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>How to stop yourself from coasting <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Being aware that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re coasting is a great start. Coasting when making right or left turns will take practice to overcome.
