In an ongoing battle with a local business regarding parking on double yellow lines, I was informed that it was no longer a police matter. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s likely then that double yellow questions on the theory test have changed. So, I did some research to find out what you need to know.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

In order to resolve an issue with double-parking, I contacted the new 101 number for non-emergencies. I spent at least 10 minutes airing my gripes about the inconsiderate business opposite my house, which was constantly parking vehicles on double yellow lines, blocking a boss stop and making the pavement inaccessible for parents with pushchairs & the disabled.<\/span><\/p>\n

The policeman listened intently, before politely informing me that parking on double yellow lines had been decriminalised, it was no longer a police matter. Believe it not, my first thought was – \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcthat\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to alter the theory test<\/a><\/strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c so, I thought I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d better do a blog.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Deals With Double Yellow Rule Breakers?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s actually your local council, the parking services department to be specific. Should you get a question about double yellow lines on your theory test remember, the police no longer enforce parking contraventions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The police can request that a vehicle owner move their vehicle, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s now the responsibility of the beloved traffic warden to issue tickets and monitor infringements.<\/span><\/p>\n

Frustrating<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

While this is all great knowledge to have ahead of your theory test, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve found the process of getting action taken on rule breakers very labour intensive.<\/span><\/p>\n

The problem is, enforcement can only be carried out if someone gets caught and unfortunately, wardens on residential roads are few and far between because there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no money to be made. In fact, they tend to frequent Wolverhampton city centre<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rules<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

For the purpose of your theory test, I will clarify the rules regarding double yellow lines. Points 238 to 252 of the Highway Code state that restrictions are imposed on motorists preventing them from stopping on double yellow lines, unless otherwise stated (usually by a sign).<\/span><\/p>\n

If there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no signage in place, motorists are permitted to park on double yellow lines, but not 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exemptions also apply to a number of motorists, permitting them to park on double yellow lines, these include:<\/span><\/p>\n
