Fun fact for you – the UK does not have a single town or city beginning with the letter ‘Z’, meaning no DVSA theory test centres. However, most major towns and cities have at least one so you can always expect to find one in your area.
When making an online theory test booking you can choose from more than 80 different DVSA theory test centres dotted around the UK. Obviously, when you book a theory test online we advise that you do so for a centre that’s closest to you and chances are you will be able to find a test centre that’s in close proximity.
However, if you make an online theory test booking in Northern Ireland, you’ll need to be a little more flexible in terms of where you take your test as there are only six DVSA theory centres across the whole of the country. These can be found in Ballymena, Belfast, Londonderry, Newry, Omagh and Portadown.
Who operates the DVSA theory test centres?
Currently, DVSA theory test centres are operated by a company known as Pearson Professional, part of the Pearson VUE group. However, the contract for running and managing the test centres is due to exchange hands in September 2016, with Learndirect taking over.
The theory test itself is developed and managed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). They’re responsible for creating the theory test questions based on information contained in the Highway Code.
Which towns and cities have DVSA theory test centres?
Not all towns have DVSA theory test centres, but the majority of large towns and cities are certain to have one. For some theory test candidates, it could mean making an online theory test booking for the next town nearest to them if there isn’t a facility available in their immediate location.
Choosing a test centre
When making an online theory test booking, choose a DVSA theory test centre that’s convenient for you. Don’t get caught up in the idea that booking a theory test at a test centre with a high pass rate guarantees you a pass, it simply doesn’t work like that.
Passing is based on your knowledge of driving theory, not the reputation of the driving theory test centre having a high success rate.
Once you book a theory test online, the DVSA will send you an email to confirm your theory test booking, date and time, provided you have a valid email address. If you don’t have an email address, you can’t book a theory test online.
You can find a test centre and make a theory test booking using the Book Theory Test Today service and we’ll conclude this guide with a little bit about us.
